Esther Maia is 8 days old

New babies (we read) drop in weight for the first few days. Esther was born 7lbs 6oz and weighed less and less each day until her lowest weight yesterday which was 6lbs 0.5oz. This can be scary even if it is supposed to be perfectly normal. But today she started climbing in weight again and is now 6lbs 4oz and so we breath a little bit easier.

She is doing so well, sleeping and eating and eating and sleeping. She can smile, and frown and use every muscle in her face to try to tell you exactly how she feels. She is bright and curious, and then suddenly hungry then sleepy. She doesn’t like having her diaper changed (and who does). Her skin is so soft and if it dries a little we apply jojoba oil and she likes that. But mostly she likes getting back in warm dry clothes and being wrapped up and cuddled.
